Production Details

Project Location: Arizona
Project Type: Live Event
Project Name: Hollywood Diamond Jesters Live Comedy Softball Tour
Project Notes: We will hold auditions on Saturday June 2, 2018 in the morning. Being in the Phoenix area this time of the year we need to meet rather early before the heat takes over. The same applies to rehearsals. Early morning or early evening. We will try to schedule rehearsals when it's convenient for everyone. We will let everyone know by e-mail where the first audition is located. At that time we will go over the entire game plan as a group so everyone hears the same information at the same time and will be free to ask any questions prior to auditioning.

Project Synopsis: We are a Live Comedy Softball show in the likeness of Harlem Globetrotters, except of course we play softball on a real softball field. The show is 4 1/2 innings long or about 2 hours. The show follows a script. We perform 2 - 3 comedy routines each inning. Everyone takes part in all the routines. These shows will be primarily for active military and vets. As a vet myself, I understand being deployed and having to leave your wife, or husband and kids at home for months. With military pay what it is I also understand not being able to "do a lot" by yourself. For that reason we will not sell tickets for these shows. There will be no charge to attend. Even though our primary audience is military - active or retired we will not turn anyone away. The plan is to do a minimum of 15 shows this year with the final one in Washington DC. A little softball playing ability is helpful. However a couple of the roles can be filled by someone that has never played softball. I m not looking for "hall of fame" type players.

Roles/Character Breakdown

CATCHER - Age 16 - 25 years old. This role is for someone who is kind of a "country bumpkin". For example there is a routine where we "pay the umpire off" and the catcher really doesn't get what we are doing. Or later in the show the catcher has an idea that backfires and they start to cry. This is one role that does require a little softball ability. This role does not have to "bat" but does have to be able to catch and throw.

RINGER (SOFTBALL PLAYER)  - Age 16-25 years old. This is a role that could be filled by someone who has little or no softball experience. However, this whole show is based on the ringer - who is also the coach of the "other" team - getting cheated on most every routine by the call the umpire makes. The script will show, toward the end, a line where the ringer is about one more bad call away from a stroke. So the person filling this roll has to start out as a nice friendly softball player but one that gets frustrated from the first inning to the 4th inning and as the script says is about one more call away from a massive stroke.

SHORTSTOP/THIRD BASEPERSON - Age 16-25 years old. These two roles do require softball ability. Again, not hall of fame ability just be able to play "a little". At this time these two roles do not have many lines - however we can change that by coming up with more routines. However these two roles play a vital part in most of the routines.
